Happy Birthday

I know you thought I forgot
And until this morning
I must confess
I did.

I don't have much money
As you very well know.
But I wanted to give you something
Even if only a little.

This poem does not rhyme
For I am not very rhythmic.
But all this you did know before.
That is what I love about you.

You know me so well.
You have put up with me
And my imperfections
And stood by me still.

But I guess that's what friends are for
For no other reason
Than that is what Christ
Did for us.

It brings me joy to have a friend
That reminds me daily of God's love.
I pray that you realize
What you mean to me.
